Arlington, Texas (April 14, 2003) - The nation's top minds have chosen the nation's top games.

After a 40-hour game-playing marathon, members of American Mensa named five new games as Mensa Select®. This year's winners are:

Octiles (www.otb-games.com) - Replace tiles to create paths for your runners and send them in a punctuated journey across the board. Place your pieces, plan your paths and race to the finish.

TransAmerica (www.riograndegames.com) - Players take turns laying track, starting with separate networks. Eventually the networks connect. The first player to connect his five secret cities wins the round.

Cityscape (www.otb-games.com) - Secretly plan the shape of this city from its primary view on your side. Then take turns building it to your plan, and thwart your opponent from achieving their goals.

Blokus (www.blokus.com) - Players take turns placing pieces on their board, each starting from their corner. Each new piece must touch at least one other piece of the same color, but only at the corners. The game ends when all players are blocked from laying down anymore of their pieces.

Fire & Ice (www.otb-games.com) - Capture three islands in a row, by controlling three points in a row on each. A strategic, move and place game with shifting strategies that increase in complexity until one player wins.

Mensa Select® winners are chosen annually at the Mensa Mind GamesTM competition. Members of the high IQ society spend a weekend playing and rating new board and card games. The five games that rate the highest are named Mensa Select® and may display the Mensa Select® seal on their packaging.

"The Mensa Select seal lets consumers know that intelligent people enjoy playing a American Mensa Names Mensa Select® Winners, game," said Pam Donahoo, executive director of American Mensa. "You don't have to be a genius to enjoy the games that win this competition. We rate the games on originality, aesthetics, value, and playability, so the Mensa Select® seal indicates games that are fresh, well-designed, and challenging."

This year's Mind GamesTM competition was held April 11 -13 in Houston, Texas. More than 160 players from every corner of United States were challenged by the 64 game entries. The winners of this year's competition join the ranks of such games as Tri-Bond, Taboo, and Scattergories as Mensa Select® winners.

Based in Arlington, Texas, American Mensa is an organization open to anyone who scores in the top two percent on an accepted, standardized intelligence test.
