THE WINNERS! Oh, the games people play

American Mensa Mind Games 2001 Competition

Arlington, Texas (April 22, 2001) - The 12th annual American Mensa Mind Games Competition was held April 20-22 in Medina, Ohio (just outside of Cleveland). The competition provides an opportunity for game manufacturers and inventors to compete in one of the most respected and recognizable national games competitions, while having their games reviewed by some of the most avid game-players - members of American Mensa. The games are judged on originality, game play, play value, aesthetics and clarity of instructions.

This weekend's event included 150 Mensa judges from over 23 states. Out of 62 games, the five board games that will receive the Mensa Select Seal for 2001 are:

Brainstrain - a unique game where the players make up the words. You've got 60 seconds to ask questions fast to determine who, what and where you are. $29.95, www.chucklegame.com.

DAO - the game that requires an ever-changing scenario, strategy and precise balance of movement. $39.95, www.playdao.com.

Metro - Engineer the most extensive network of track in the Paris underground while attempting to cut off you opponents tracks. $29.95, www.funagain.com.

Shapes Up - Players fit shapes together like a tangram, to cover their boards and form multicolored squares. $19.95, www.educationalinsights.com.

The Poll Game - choose from 750 yes/no questions or create one. The object is to guess how many players will answer yes to the question. $34.95, www.thepollgame.com.

Based in Arlington, Texas, American Mensa is for anyone who scores in the top 2 percent of the general population on a standardized intelligence test.
