Arlington, Texas (June 15, 2001) - The creation of The World's Largest Brain was spearheaded by Dr. Scott Gibbs, a neurosurgeon from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Gibbs had the idea to build a hot air balloon in the shape of a human brain after visiting the 1995 Balloon Federation of America's National Championship. Five years later, in May 2000, he filed a patent on The World's Largest Brain.
Gibbs is an internationally known neurosurgeon who received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1991. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Brain Injury Association of Missouri, Inc., the Missouri State Neurological Society, and the American Medical Writers Association.
Gibbs has twice served as the medical director at Cannon Hall, Jamaica, and is the founder and CEO of the International Brain Foundation. He has authored and co-authored numerous medical abstracts, manuscripts and books including the 1998, 1999, and 2000 editions of the Year Book of Neurology and Neurosurgery.
In 1991, Gibbs won the Samuel P.W. Black Prize for Excellence in Neurosurgery and he authors an award-winning weekly column on general medical topics for the Southeast Missourian. He has also served on the Medical Ethics Committee at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
