Arlington, Texas (January 24, 2003) - Who are America's favorite smarty-pants? American Mensa, the high IQ society, recently polled* Americans regarding their favorite Hollywood geniuses.

The results? Out of about 9,000 responses, a whopping 3,334 people voted Doogie Howser as television's biggest brainiac. Following close behind was the professor on Gilligan's Island.

America's #1 TV drama is also America's smartest. Almost 3,000 people voted CSI as the TV show with the smartest cast of characters. Lagging by only 200 votes was the cast of Frasier.

Jeopardy lovers watch out! In a contest between Alex Trebek and Ben Stein, 59% of our voters said Alex would be the weaker link. Fifty-eight percent of voters said Lisa Simpson is the cartoon character most likely to be a member of Mensa…and they were right. Simpsons fans know that Lisa was made a member of Mensa in a 1999 episode.

MTV's Daria didn't fare well against Scooby-Doo's Velma: 58% of voters thought the brains behind the Mystery Machine would be more likely to be valedictorian. Jerry Lewis and Eddie Murphy ran neck and neck for the title of favorite nutty professor. In the end, Murphy nudged out Lewis by just 56 votes.

Voters also thought Matt Damon's character in Good Will Hunting outsmarted Russell Crowe's character in A Beautiful Mind, Jodie Foster's character in Contact, Val Kilmer's character in Real Genius, and Q from the James Bond movies. Damon's Will Hunting won with 34% of the votes.

Mensa is an organization open to anyone who scores in the top two percent on an accepted, standardized intelligence test. For more information about the organization, call 800-66-MENSA or visit www.previous.us.mensa.org.
