Arlington, Texas (June 14, 2004) – On Friday, July 2, Mensa couples from around the country will gather at the Paris Las Vegas hotel to reaffirm their wedding vows. The ceremony will take place in conjunction with the organization’s annual convention.
“Many of our members meet their spouses at Mensa events,” said Pam Donahoo, executive director of American Mensa. “This very special event will allow these couples to reaffirm their vows in front of the Mensa friends and families who have supported them through the years.”
The reaffirmation ceremony will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a promenade, during which the couples will form a large circle. To allow for the diverse beliefs of the members, four different services will take place. In turn, couples participating in the Roman Catholic, Jewish, non-denominational Christian, and non-religious Mensa-oriented services, will move to the center of the circle to renew their marriage vows.
“When you become a member of Mensa, you gain an extended family,” said Geri Neemidge, who is organizing the event with her husband, John. “It will be wonderful to reaffirm my commitment to John in the presence of that family.”
The organization’s convention is expected to bring more than 2,000 Mensa members to Las Vegas over the July 4 weekend. They will represent 47 states and 12 countries.
Mensa is an organization open to anyone who scores in the top two percent on an accepted, standardized intelligence test. Mensa has more than 100,000 members worldwide, with more than 50,000 members in the United States. For more information about American Mensa, visit www.previous.us.mensa.org or call 800-66-MENSA.
