- American Mensa’s 42nd Annual Gathering will be held June 30, 2004 – July 5, 2004 at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel in Las Vegas.
- More than 2,000 members of Mensa are expected to attend the event.
- Mensans from 47 states are registered for the Annual Gathering. International guests represent 11 different countries including Australia, Cyprus, Denmark, and Ireland.
- More than 200 activities are scheduled during the Annual Gathering. These include 16 programs about gambling, 26 programs about science and technology, and 33 programs about rock & roll.
- Several tournaments are scheduled throughout the gathering, including charades, a trivia tournament, and a spelling bee.
- Special tracks of programming have been planned for children, tweens, and teens. Mensa’s youngest member is just four years old.
- The city of Las Vegas has issued a proclamation of welcome to Mensa and has recognized the organization as an important source of encouragement in human intelligence.
- The Mensa Foundation will present Dr. Harry Ringermacher with the 2003 Copper Black Award. The Copper Black Award is presented annually to the Mensa member who has made the most outstanding creative achievement during the year. Ringermacher’s work in transient infrared imaging technology has revolutionized the thermal imaging field. The presentation will take place July 3 at 6:30 p.m.
- Mensa will host a mass reaffirmation of wedding vows for members on Friday, July 2.
- On Friday, July 2, American Mensa will announce this year’s inductees into the American Mensa Hall of Fame. Current members of the Hall of Fame are Nicolas Copernicus, Charles Darwin, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, Galileo Galilei, Leonardo da Vinci, and Isaac Newton.
